My weekend of unemployment was blissful. I joke, I’m employed obviously, but the small lull between jobs that was this weekend was amazing. Friday afternoon, I met up with Erica and we made our way to St. Louis for Keith Urban and the Light the Fuse Tour. Admittedly, I don’t follow country music all that much, but I do enjoy Keith Urban, so I was really excited.
I had no idea who Little Big Town was (I know, I’ve obviously been living in a closet), but I loved their sound — and the gorgeous backdrop they had on stage:
Keith Urban was amazing. Just an entertainer through and through. He played everything I was hoping he’d play, and came back for a super sweet encore.
Apparently Nicole Kidman was in attendance too! We didn’t leave the concert until nearly 11pm, and didn’t get home until almost 3am. I haven’t stayed out this late since,…well I can’t even remember. I took a little video. It was hard to get a good shot because, as you’ll notice, the couple in front of me would not stop making out. Seriously.
Saturday morning, Neil managed to drag me out of bed to head to Home Depot. Earlier in the week, we noticed some leaking from the water heater, and after some reading, we realized it was on the way out — and Neil decided he wanted to tackle the project of replacing it himself. Isn’t he amazing!?
Unlike on TV and on some of the more popular DIY blogs, improvement projects in this old house are usually met with healthy dose of trepidation. Things like standard sizes, well-done pre-existing DIY projects, and code compliance are like unicorns. I’ll be honest, it is really hard to get excited sometimes.
Thankfully, this trip only required two additional trips to the hardware store for exchanges/additional materials. I think that might be a new record for us!
While on break from the water heater, he hung the new mailbox. Doesn’t it look fab? It gives the front of our house a bit more personality — kind of a nice statement.
We also finally got the door cut for the kitchen. Let’s hope the frame holds a solid wood door…
While this was all going on, I managed to redo all the houseplants and start a new crop of jade.
Saturday night we headed to dinner with some friends from the local car scene. An old friend of ours came up from Springfield, as well as someone I knew from HS I hadn’t seen since graduation came and we had a late dinner at Flat Branch. It was a blast seeing everyone — just like old times. We took a little white knuckle drive around town afterwards.
Sunday morning we hit up open gym at CrossFit Fringe. This is the first weekend in a while I haven’t covered it, so it was nice to attend as an athlete. Neil worked on weighted pull-ups and handstand push-ups, and I did a max deadlift and some ring and snatch work. My old PR was 185 lbs, and I managed a new PR of 205 lbs.
Ringing the PR bell!
The rest of the day was spent working on freelance and kind of getting ready for my first day of work. It’s funny, I feel like I’m going back to school in a way. New clothes, new supplies — super excited!
Did you achieve a good work/life balance this weekend?
