Ever go on a cooking hiatus? We’ve been on a bit of an unexpected one this week. I’ve had yearly planning meetings at work, and what I thought would be the perfect amount of food (you know, based on those standard FDA portion sizes) ended up being wishful thinking. The portion sizes were HUGE, leaving us with tons of leftovers. My boss and I have been splitting them up, and for the whole of this week we’ve subsided on two tubs of fruit and mixed greens salad.
I feel like I’ve been on a surprise detox, and I have to tell you, I feel GREAT! Sure, I’m getting a little burnt out on salad greens, but the fruit can keep on keepin’ on as far as I’m concerned. I could do this all the time, although I am very much missing our kitchen adventures. We’ll be back this weekend, promise – with bread!
How was your Valentine’s Day? Ours was fairly low key. We had work all day, then took Clive for a long car ride, ordered our favorite pizza and watched Inception. Have you seen it? We thought it was pretty awesome, though not as good as all the hype made it out to be. I think I was expecting more twists and turns in the plot? What did you think?
My V-Day/early birthday gift from Neil: A new Nook Color! I’ve been completely obsessed with downsizing my enormous book collection (see just a piece of it here) in preparation to move, and I think this is the perfect way to do it without sacrificing my book fetish. I’m finally going to read the Harry Potter Series, among a ton of other books. They all feel right at my fingertips, I feel so powerful! Okay, maybe not. But I will be beyond happy if I didn’t have to move all those books again.

I got a Nook for Christmas – and love it! I pledged that 2011 was the year of no purchased paper books – will only be reading books on my nook, books that are gifts, and the huge pile of unread books in my nightstand!
Definitely agreed! I’m just stuffed to the gills with books, and they’re such a pain to move. That and I want to be “lighter” so to speak? I have tons of unread books too!
Wow i am just excited that you are going to read Harry Potter. Lucky! You get to experience the whole series for the first time. I have read the series three times now, and well nothing beats the “first time.” Fruit is good. I don’t eat enough fruit. I should eat more fruit.
I am planning on getting an e-reader sometime this year, and I’m torn between the Nook and the Kindle. What made you got for the Nook, if you don’t mind my asking?
And for Valentine’s day, we drank a bottle of wine at the park while hanging out with the dogs. Nothing too exciting, but the perfect way to spend a weeknight. 🙂
Hey Chrissy, The choice was a fairly easy one. In addition to being both in color and having a touch screen, the Nook is more open source than a Kindle, which means you aren’t tied to their proprietary format that limits you to their books. The nook reads EPub (i.e. book pdf) which means you can get the books from anywhere and load them up on your Nook.
Additionally they have a fully featured browser, which is still experimental in the latest Kindle. I’m not as familiar with the other E-Readers out there, but if the choice is between the Kindle and the Nook, the Nook is definitely the winner.
Thanks! I hadn’t done my research at all (it’s still just a thought) but this is very helpful. I like touch screens and I like color, and open source is always awesome. Thanks for the advice!
So excited you got your Nook! Also excited about Harry Potter, I completely agree… I wish I could read them all for the first time again! :o)
They started coming out when I was in college, and I just didn’t have the time for “fun reading.” Then I jumped to grad school, …still didn’t have any time for fun reading. So now that I’m nearing the end, I can sneak little bits of fun reading in here and there.
