I had a bittersweet happy hour with my
coworkers girlfriends after work last night. We had originally planned the occasion to celebrate my fellow designer Ashley’s wedding in a few weeks, and we did, but with my last day being tomorrow and Ashley announcing this week that she is moving to New York, it kind of felt like a very abrupt going-away party.
She’s going to keep working for Mizzou Online from New York and I’ll be here in Columbia but working for a different company. It’s all so surreal right now. I won’t pull out any Ferris Bueller quotes, but this huge amount of change is turning my stomach in knots. Since we’ll both be working from home, we’re going take your advice and set schedules with one another to talk and work collaboratively to avoid feeling alone and isolated.
I hope I can keep the friendships and connections I’ve made not only in the last year, but the last seven years. I have been fortunate to work with so many amazing people, and gain so many true friendships from work, that I’ve never really had to create a real social life outside of my career. I’m both proud and kind of embarrassed to admit that. I can’t wait to see where the next year takes my life, I’m ready for some adventure!
