With our recent rash of food-related posts, I wasn’t going to bore you with a long thread of all the things we make for Thanksgiving. However, it is like the food holiday of the year, and…well…I can’t resist. Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday and the start of the fast-paced, “look now or you’ll mis it” holiday season. I’ve been planning and scheming for a month now and have tons of things I want to try, have drooled over, and swear by every year. Along with what we make, I’ll list a few recipes I dream of trying in the next few years.
Turkey
- Our Favorite: Turkey with Herbes de Provence and Citrus: This turkey is amazing, full of vibrant flavor and never dry. It’s our standard “go-to.” {via Food Network} (pictured above)
- To try: Deep Fried Thanksgiving Turkey: We’ve always wanted to try a deep fried turkey, but am utterly afraid to try given the reputation of this method. {via Chaos in the Kitchen}
- To try: Soy and Five Spice Braised Turkey: We love trying non-traditional bends on our holiday fare, and this just looks delicious. {via Gourmet Traveller}
Potatoes
- Our Favorite: Olive Oil Mashed Potatoes: A light, fluffy, and “not quite what you were expecting” staple. {via Caviar & Codfish}
- To try: Roasted Butternut Squash & Pear Mash: I’ve never tried a sweet potato mash, and the pears sound like a great sweetener. Is it a side dish or a dessert? {via What’s Cooking Chicago?}
- To try: Wasabi Mashed Potatoes: A great way to flavor up bland potatoes with a kick! {via WasabiBratwurst}
Green Beans
- Our Favorite: Green Beans with Olive Oil and Lemon Juice: We’re not much for traditional mushroom soup green bean casserold, but we love this light recipe that keeps the vegetable the main attraction. {via Memorie di Angelina}
- To try: Sesame Green Beans {via dyln}
- To try: Green Beans with Walnuts and Lemon Vinaigrette {via The Bitten Word}
Stuffing
- Our Favorite: Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing: Hands down the best stuffing I have ever made. The contrast of the flavors and textures makes it so diverse and adaptable with additional or different ingredients. I’ve received so many compliments on it, it’s a hands down staple, and I don’t know if I could replace it or even try something else. {recipe via allrecipes}{image via The Bitten Word}
- To try: Shitake Mushroom Stuffing: Neil would hate it, but I would NOM it. {recipe via Recipe Girl}
- To try: Merguez, Fennel, and Preserved Lemon Stuffing: I saw this and thought it was quite literally a world away from anything we’ve had in the “stuffing category.” {via CookThink}
Cranberry Sauce
- Our Favorite: Roasted Cranberry Sauce: Sweet zesty and the orange makes all the difference. {via Nova Clutch}
- Nutty Cranberry Relish: Looks absolutely wonderful, don’t know what else to say. {via The Bitten Word}
- Cranberry Sauce with Cinnamon and Lemon: The combination of sweet, sweeter and cinnamon can never be a bad thing. {via The Daily Spud}
Stay tuned for our post on dessert! Dessert is so epic it warranted its own post.
