The Final Solution

This stairway bookcase may be the only solution for my book addiction. This weekend I finished Dan Brown’s latest book, The Lost Symbol, and went to the bookshelf and realized there was no room. Every place to tuck and squeeze in just one more book has been taken, and I have no ideas where to go next other than just to pack them away till we move and hopefully move to a bigger more permanent spot. For some people, they own no books, for me, I just can’t picture not owning some books, and having a personal library with all the words and plots I treasure most. Sigh. Any practical ideas? I’d appreciate any help I can get.

I love this picture everytime I see it! I really want to do this. The hard part is that from an architecture perspective it’s not as easy as you think. You couldn’t do this on the Main Staircase. There is a limit to how tall you can be between steps (7″). But as a secondary ‘show’ stair, it would be awesome.

I saw it, and I was like…it’s the final solution for all my book woes. I need to find a way to display my books in the house, and we just…well not a lot of space…need something creative….

Blake/Jes: why are there alternating step protrusions?

I’m not totally sure as to why, but my speculation would be they are there for looks. It could also be used as bench to kinda chill on the bookcase, giving it a cozy atmosphere.

Thats what I was thinking, just something to make it more interesting than a one-width. I was day-dreaming all day yesterday of intricate book solutions for our home…I think I need Blake’s rational mind.
